Like every controversial issue, there are two sides to this story.

The first side is that bottled water is superficial; it's hazardous to our long-term health and it damages our environment. Bottled water is actually no better than tap water; in fact, in most cases, the quality of bottled water, in comparison to municipal tap water, is worse than that of it's bottled water counterpart.

The other side of the story involves convenience, seemingly low cost, availability.
It's there for us when we need it; it's versatile - we can take it on road trips or the casual walk. We're able to find it almost anywhere; tap water can only be found through taps and fountains - which are rare in public places today.

It's also a myth that bottled water is safer than tap water; that tap water has harmful chemicals that could damage our immune system; that it tastes funny and can make you go crazy. The myth is false. Tap water, especially in high-density areas like Toronto and Vancouver, have municipal water supplies with very strict standards. Comparably to bottled water companies, Toronto checks the quality of its water every six to twelve hours, in every section of the treatment facility. Bottled water companies are regulated every six to twelve years, in comparison. Unless something goes horribly wrong and somebody is killed because of a toxin contracted from the bottled water, no part of the bottling system is changed.

There is much more to both sides of the story; however there is not nearly enough room to write it all out here.
